Other Experiences
During the internship period at the WSO2 i experienced a lot of things that were not techincal these experence and activities were the reasons that made our stay at WSO2 plesent and enjoyable . WSO2 has its own culture thats makes WSO2 a great place to work. all the employees are very friendly and you can directly go and talk to any one without any problem if you need to even the CEO Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana. here I will try to go through some of the expereinces I had during my internship at WSO2.
Leisure Activities During tea time
As a custom everday and 3.30pm all the employees at WSO2 gather at the lobby area of the ground floor to have tea and have a snack everone hangs around for about 1/2hr to 45 minutes and play various games such as Table Tennis, Foosball, and Caroms. I myself liked to play Table Tennis alot although it had no prior experience in Table Tennis is was able to learn the rules and how to play during the tranning period. and playing Table Tennis allowed me to get to know many employees that were not in my team almost all the employees who had an interest in Table Tennis would join the game at that time irespective of there posts one of the most enthusiastic players was the Mr. Afkam Azeez who was the Director of Architecture at WSO2.
Additionaly in the evening in would play a little bit of Basketball when i stayed late and the car park was free this is because the Basketball court is also used as the car park during the day.
WSO2 Annual Trip to Heritance Kandalama
We were lucky to be albe partcipate in the WSO2 annual trip. This was a wonderful experience for us to enjoy and to get to know the employees at WSO2. The Trip is an annual event and this year the trip was organized as a three day trip to Heritance Kandalama Hotel and was scheduled from 8th April to 10th April 2011. almost everone in at WSO2 partcipated in the trip with the family mambers even the minor staff members participated in the trip. it was a great experience for me to spend a vacation in 5 star hotel. All the staff members participated in various fun activities during our stay at the hotel. On the first day we played cricket at the hotel grounds. on the second day there was a Aurudu Uthsawaya organized because it was the festive season, all the employees participated in various games and activities. is also participated in the games. After dark there was a DJ and a price giving for winners of the Aurudu Uthsawaya and two more fun activities were organized, they were the Aurudu kumara and kumari events and another special event to choose the best bold headed person. Dr Sanjiva Weerawarana, CEO of WSO2 also participated in this event and entertained everyone.
Community Services Project
I was lucky enough to participate in the WSO2 Community Services Project. The project was organized for Bellan me oya primary school, Sigiriya. we went to the school with some equipment that was needed by the school and we received a very warm welcome from the children and there parents and teachers of the school year. they had prepared a treat for us and after that we held a sramadana campaign to reconstruct the school play ground. later the students of the school were invited to visit the company and to see colombo and the expense were taken care of by WSO2.
Watching the world cup semifinal
During the Cricket World Cup some of the cricket fans decided to stay at the office and watch the semifinals together the administration provided us with snacks and drinks during the match.
Vesak Celebrations
For the Vesak festival we halped to create Vesak Lanterns to decorate the office premises. we stayed late a day before the Vesak festival to create and decorate Vesak lanterns.
Outing with the project team
After the release our team members in the Gadget Server team and members of the Data Services Server went on an outing to have lunch. we went to a restaurant named Jack Tree that was not that far away from the company premises. we were also jioned by the Senior Manager of both the teams Mr. Sumedha Rubasinghe. All the team members had a nice lunch and talked about various incidents that happened to them during there time at WSO2 and funny stories.
Project demonstrations
during the week starting from 25th of July we were requested to do a small 20-30 minute presentation to the other members of the company about the work we did during our internship and about the projects we did during this time everyone presented there work to the other members at WSO2 I did my presentation on friday and we all received comments and feedbacks from the senior staff member about our projects and our work that we had done during the internship period.
